After university, he set up a number of businesses from commercial outlets to construction. He was the architect of ensuring that Somerset West and Taunton (SWT) Council implemented a new investment strategy to protect essential services. This now contributes £4.7M net income per annum to local government.

Habib also ensured that all Public Open Spaces were protected from development. He introduced the provision of “affordable employment land”, and the Research and Development strategy to help with the revitalisation of our county town - a strategy that was commended by the Town and Country Planning Association.
