Praising "life-changing" work for disabilities
Gideon Amos, MP for Taunton and Wellington, welcomed one of his constituents to the Parliament after she was recognised for her “life-changing” work on behalf children with disabilities and their families.
Laura Brown of Taunton was nominated in The Contact Awards 2025 in the Change Maker category.
The awards celebrate the achievements of families of children with disabilities up and down the country.
Through Spinning World of Autism, Laura advocates for autistic individuals, the SEND crisis, and, most notably, AAC (augmentative and alternative communication).
Laura said: "It's an honour to have been nominated and be recognised by Contact as a Change Maker.
“It's wonderful to bring more awareness to AAC devices to reach families of children who would hugely benefit from this, exactly how we have."
Gideon added: “I was delighted to welcome Laura and celebrate her remarkable work on behalf of our community.
“I am immensely proud of the many people across Taunton and Wellington who devote their lives to helping people less fortunate than themselves. Well done, Laura, and keep up your fantastic work.”
Laura was nominated by her partner, Pete, who wrote: “Laura is the definition of a parent changemaker.
“A parent of a non-speaking autistic child, Laura supports families daily – sharing accurate AAC information, breaking down myths, and guiding new users. She has spoken at Communication Works, the Houses of Parliament, and co-led webinars.
"Despite running a business full-time, Laura’s volunteer advocacy is life-changing. Her work empowers families, builds awareness, and ensures every child has the right to a voice.”
