Boots lobbied on Wellington store

Following news that Boots is shutting its pharmacy next to Wellington Medical Centre, the company has been asked for an assurance that its town centre shop will remain open.
Gideon Amos, the area’s Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate, has written to Seb James, managing director of Boots UK.
He said in the letter: “I recognise that Boots is going through restructuring at present.
“However, the loss of many local pharmacies is causing real concern for people in Taunton and Wellington, including your closure of pharmacies at Coopers Mill in Norton Fitzwarren, St James Surgery in Taunton and Mantle Street in Wellington.
“The potential loss of shops from the High Street at a time when our town centres are beginning to recover is a significant worry.
“Can I therefore ask whether you can give any assurances that your main store on the High Street in Wellington will be remaining open?
“Given the closure of the nearby Mantle Street pharmacy, this store will become even more important for Wellington patients and shoppers.
“I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.”
